It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
